Home Depot Spas are the issue of this website. It is the authors way of sharing his opinion and warning others who may be considering a rather large investment by purchasing a spa sold through home depot.
I have spent a great deal of money at home depot and will continue to shop there.
This site is in regards to the spas sold through Home Depot only.
I have never had a problem with any product I have purchased at home depot until I purchased what I though was a top of the line 7 person spa w/stereo through home depots website.
About 3 years ago taking the advise of my doctor I decided to purchase a spa to help relieve the pain in my lower back. My back injury occurred on a king crab boat in Alaska when an 800# king crab pot was dropped on me. The same pots are seen on the popular discovery channel show "The Worlds Deadliest Catch"!
Well, being a frequent visitor to Home Depot I kept looking at the spas and one day grabbed one of the flyers and went home... got online... and made the tough decision to make the large investment in a new spa.
So I went to the website on the flyer and bought the best they had to offer thinking that my friends and family would want to come over and enjoy the spa as well so a 7 person spa seemed to be the right choice. |

Doesn't all that just sound wonderful?
Well after making the spa purchase of close to $7,000. the spa came two weeks late and without the Ozonator I ordered with the spa no chemical kit and the steps were on back order.
I found that I needed to spend more money ... because of the spa's large size... I had to have the fence and gate taken down and replaced after the spa was moved into the back yard, this caused damage to the underground sprinklers by breaking a pipe running near a fence post we had to remove to gain access to the back yard. No fear a home depot was near by to get the necessary plumbing parts to fix it!
Then I found I needed to buy the necessary electrical circuit breakers to run the spa (home depot had all the parts in stock) and had to pay an electrician to hook it all up. I had a total investment of over $8,500.00 before I ever got to sit in the spa.
Well I filled the spa with water.... waited for it to reach the proper temp... and just as I expected, when I FINALLY was able to get into it.... the SPA FELT WONDERFUL!
The first thing I noticed is that the two head rests did not stay attached to the spa and were continually floating around the spa.
I enjoyed the spa almost every night for about two weeks, it was great lying there... relaxing... listening to good music on a great sounding stereo system... drinking a glass of wine with friends.. Ah what a life!
It then started to rain. In about 4 days . . . after the weather cleared up . . . I took the stereo face plate out and popped it in and jumped in the spa and when I tried to turn on the stereo . . . nothing! The stereo stopped working. So I finished my soak in the spa and got out and took the stereo out of the spa. On inspection of the stereo . . . by opening the stereo cover . . . it was very clear that water had gotten into the stereo and shorted out all the circuits! So I called the service number in the manual and they promptly sent a replacement stereo! I installed the new stereo and this time I went to Home Depot and bought a good water proof caulking and caulked all around the cover of the stereo where is was sticking through the spa's cabinet. Thinking this extra effort would protect the spa stereo!
Unfortunately after installing the second stereo I used it one time and when it rained again... the rain once again some how got into the stereo and burnt it out! Calling the number again twice I got a message and left two messages and never heard back from them.. Below is the second stereo I put in the spa.. |

Several of the jets in the spa kept falling out and would not stay in |
 |
The breaker to the spa kept tripping and by unplugging one component at a time . . . we discovered that the Ozonator was causing the problem. |
| Then in April 07 the impeller in the main circulating pump went out and not getting any relief from the spa company on the stereo or the Ozonator I just threw up my hands and decided to just go soak in a friends spa... My internet business was taking all my time and I basically I forgot about the dam spa until May this year when my sister was having friends from out of town over and asked if I could have the spa fixed.. |
|
| So I removed the pump and took it to a certified spa repairman and had a new impeller put in. After reinstalling the pump and cleaning the spa and refilling it I turned it on and it ran fine heating up to temperture seeming to be working just fine for several hours until the breaker started tripping again. Calling the spa repairman we walked through all the possibilities and discovered that it was the heating element that was causing the breaker to trip. Well having the spa repairman replace the heating element the spa worked fine for the next week until we were in the middle of a nice little party and the jets stopped working! |
|
| Well after removing the panel covering the main control unit and removing the metal cover on the main spa control panel it did not take an electrician to see what the problem was! The Spas main circuit board was totally fried ! |
|
| So if you are considering a Home Depot Spa purchase I hope that you take these issues under advisement in your decision process. Out of three years. . . this spa has more down time than it has worked. The shell is still in great shape if anyone is interested in buying it? |

Stereo speakers stopped working, but that is fine since the second stereo only played one time. In the picture you can see more of the cheap jets sitting in the spa! |
Here is where I had the spa pump in the shop |
